day 11 :: 365

my beautiful six year old baby girl. i love her eyes. her eyelashes. and her perfect little eyebrows.

1) sooc.

1/400 at f/2.2, ISO 100, 50mm

2) ran skittles from otss.

3) i wanted to add a little more depth to her eyelashes, so i went into selective color | black and moved my black slider to 10. and then i followed it up with slight sharpen by pioneer woman, set 1.

day 10 :: 365

a day in the life... of a pajama pant boy. it was pajama day at school today... a class reward for good behavior.

oh wait... the focus here is on baseball. my boy loves him some baseball. and his momma loves her some sun flare.

1/500 at f/2.2, ISO 100, 50mm (Lightroom PH B&W beach preset)

tip: when shooting with sunny skies, at sunrise or sunset... shoot into the sun. you want the sun behind your subject... this will create an awesome sun flare.

day 9 :: 365

we are finally getting snow today... love!

a step by step tutorial today.

1/60 at f/2.2, ISO 100, 50mm

1) i brought the image into photoshop cs4 and ran my favorite action... skittles by otss from the junk food set.

2) let's brighten his eyes... ran eye bright and eye sparkle by otss from the made up set. i tend to skip the eye brightening because it is tedious, but for today... we will brighten his eyes... because his eyes rock. and because i am going to take the image black and white, so i want his eyes brightened so they don't end up black once i convert.

3) and i want to take the image black and white, for two reasons :: the dark/light contrast will look awesome and i want to knock all the color in his shirt out... ran pioneer woman's b&w beauty action... my favorite b&w action... and ran slight sharpen from the same set... my go to sharpening action.

day 4 :: 365

payton loves to read. only... she doesn't want us to read to her... she wants to read to us. today i volunteered in her classroom and as we waited for the bell to ring, i read the class a story. but payton wanted to hold the book... and she wanted to read it to the class.

as i ate my dinner tonight, she read me a story... in true payton style.

day 3 :: 365

it's only day three and quite frankly... i want to go to sleep. ha! but i'm sticking to my commitment.

i started planning payton's 6th birthday today... it is in four days. yeah, yeah... i stayed stuck in holiday mode a wee bit too long.

i am drowning in all.things.carnival... but i'm so excited for saturday!

day 2 :: 365

we went to the park today and froze our butts off... alas, the kids were able to burn off a little energy. much needed.

camera settings...

:: aperture priority (Av on canon)... i chose this because i wanted to bump my aperture up a little (f/2.5). i was outside, so i knew my shutter speed would already be high (1/2500). with the movement of the swing, it is hard to nail your focal point... so that is why i bumped my aperture a little bit, to give more depth of field (the higher your aperture, the higher your depth of field).
:: 1/2500 (shutter speed)
:: f/2.5 (aperture)
:: ISO 100

lens used... 50mm f/1.4

cs4 processing...

1 :: ran skittles junk food action by otss
2 :: bumped my blue saturation to 40 to bring back some of the sky
3 :: ran slight lighten by pioneer woman, set one at 50% opacity to brighten it a bit more
4 :: ran slight sharpen by pioneer woman, set one

and here is the sooc* for comparison sake... a bit underexposed for me.

day 1 :: 365

ohmygosh... our sunset tonight was so beautiful. the sun went down in between storm clouds, causing an extravagant sunset on this first day of 2012.

camera settings...

:: shutter priority (Tv on canon)... not sure why, because i usually shoot aperture priority (Av on canon), but whatever
:: 1/320
:: f/2.0
:: ISO 100

lens used... 50mm f/1.4

cs4 processing...

1 :: ran skittles junk food action by otss (one of my favorites)
2 :: contrast 10
3 :: used clone stamp tool to remove the few white light spot within the black shadows
4 :: ran slight sharpen by pioneer woman, set one (another one i use on every photograph)

and here is the sooc* for comparison sake... you will see i just gave it a little boost.
